The Yankees are bracing for bad news about slugger Gary Sanchez, who left Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a groin injury. "We'll have an MRI to get a more clear diagnosis, but we think it's probably going to be a DL situation," manager Aaron Boone told reporters after the game, calling it a groin or hip adductor injury. The Yankees catcher, who has 14 home runs and 41 RBIs but is hitting just .190 this season after going 0-for-4 on Sunday, was hurt when he tried unsuccessfully to beat the throw to first on his double-play grounder in the 10th inning. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that Ken Rosenthal's report of the Padres' interest in Maikel Franco came after Franco's best game of the season Saturday. Franco has been available for quite a while and no team has bit. Saturday, a few hours after Franco went 4 for 4 with three key hits and scored twice (see story), Rosenthal reported San Diego's interest.
