Charles Krauthammer, the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and influential Fox News commentator, died on Thursday. Krauthammer announced on June 8 that doctors had given him just weeks to live. Krauthammer wrote that he had been recovering from surgery last year to remove a cancerous tumor in his abdomen, and while he has been “gradually making my way back to health,” recent tests showed that cancer has returned and was spreading rapidly. In between one inning during every home game at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillie Phanatic will drive around the edge of the playing field shooting hot dogs into the stands from a pneumatic gun — a hot dog cannon, if you will — mounted on an ATV. Sarah Bloomquist of 6 ABC reports that, unfortunately, a Phillies fan was injured on Monday night when the Phillies opened a three-game home series with the Cardinals. The Phillie Phanatic has been launching hot dogs into the stands at Philadelphia Phillies games for years -- first at Veterans Stadium and now at Citizens Bank Park -- without any injuries. Using his customary launcher, the Phanatic sent a hot dog to fans behind home plate, where Kathy McVay was sitting. Battling a shoulder injury that will require surgery, McVay was unable to catch or deflect the hot dog, which was wrapped in duct tape so it wouldn't disintegrate upon launch. Continue to Article
