Salvador Perez ripped a two-run home run in the seventh inning off Cleveland reliever Andrew Miller to cap the Kansas City Royals' wild come-from-behind 10-9 victory over the Indians on Friday at Progressive Field in Cleveland in the first of a three-game series. Miller, who had been activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, had allowed only one earned run in 45 appearances against teams from the American League Central division since the Indians acquired him at the 2016 trade deadline. When Cleveland Indians starter Trevor Bauer directed his ire at the MLB, saying, “there is a problem in baseball right now that has to do with sticky substances and spin rates,” he was referring to pine tar and the debate in the game surrounding its use. “Most everybody does it,” said Yahoo Sports’ J.P. Arencibia about the frequency at which players use pine tar. While there are rules in the MLB stating that you can not apply any foreign substances to a baseball, Arencibia understands that many players still use pine tar — and not to cheat. Cleveland Indians’ star shortstop Francisco Lindor made good on his bet with his high school baseball team, shaving his hair Thursday after Montverde Academy completed its season undefeated.
