Jake Guentzel scored his playoff-leading 10th goal and Matt Murray made 20 saves as the Pittsburgh Penguins evened up their NHL second-round series with a 3-1 victory Thursday over the Washington Capitals. American forward Guentzel scored his ninth and 10th goals and now has a league-leading 21 points in the postseason as the Penguins regrouped from Tuesday's heartbreaking game three loss to level the best-of-seven series at 2-2. Evgeni Malkin, with his fourth goal of the NHL playoffs, scored the tiebreaking goal on the powerplay late in the second period to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead in front of a crowd of 18,600 at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. If the Bruins can win Game 4 tomorrow, than all four of the second-round series could be tied 2-2, at least for a time. For all the jokes at Washington’s expense, these Alex Ovechkin – Sidney Crosby Era series tend to go long, with two extended to seven and one finishing in six. The Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins met in the Stanley Cup Final last year and while it was known that the competition would be fierce, both teams entered the playoffs as serious contenders to get there again.  That might still happen, but Pittsburgh and Nashville each suffered a setback last night and now find themselves behind 2-1 versus the Capitals and Jets respectively. Nashville is perhaps the one that appears to be in more trouble because the Jets have been on fire offensively.  They already have 15 goals over the first three games of the second round.  The Predators are known for having a strong defense and goaltending, but they just can’t seem to contain the Jets and unless that changes, this might be as far as they go.
