During the second period of the Montreal Canadiens' 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Friday, Alexander Ovechkin laid a monstrous hit on Habs forward Jonathan Drouin. Drouin did leave the game after the collision but returned to finish the contest. After the match was over, Ovechkin was asked about the thunderous check, saying that there was nothing wrong with it. Tomas Tatar had a goal with three assists and Phillip Danault recorded one with two helpers as the visiting Montreal Canadiens used a four-goal second period to win their third straight, 5-2, and end the Washington Capitals' 13-game point streak on Friday night. NY Islanders
A member of the infamous 2016 free agent class that is currently handcuffing cap space for numerous teams around the NHL went on waivers Thursday. Andrew Ladd and the four years remaining on his seven-year, $38.5-million contract with a cap hit of $5.5-million, is now available on the waiver wire to all other 30 teams. The 33-year-old forward is still on the Long-Term Injury Reserve due to a knee injury, but the New York Islanders were forced into the decision because of the limited games for his conditioning stint in the AHL. NY Islanders
The team most akin to the Islanders of last season is probably Edmonton, where they're playing well enough (51ish percent adjusted xGF%) but getting the bounces too (101 PDO). Based on the way things are going right now, you'd have to say either the Avs (about 49 percent in adjusted goals but carrying a PDO in the 104 range), Ducks (49 percent/101.5), or well, Islanders (49 percent/103) are your guys for what you're talking about. Gurshaan asks: “Who exactly is Sean Walker and how? Continue to Article
