After taking a bit of time to mull it over, The Great One has decided not to make his return behind the bench at this winter's Spengler Cup. Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Wayne Gretzky had been approached by Sean Burke about leading Canada's team at the upcoming tournament. Burke is the general manager for the Canadian entry at what is often referred to as the oldest invitational ice hockey tournament in the world. Continue to Article

Ilya Kovalchuk's late-career return to the NHL has been a tumultuous one, and now it appears that his time with the LA Kings, at least, is nearing an end. The 36-year-old and the organization are in the process of finalizing Kovalchuk's release, the Hockey News reported Wednesday afternoon. Kovalchuk, who was a healthy scratch for the Kings in Tuesday night's win over the Wild, didn't speak to the media on Wednesday, but head coach Todd McLellan addressed the situation. The NHL's Stadium Series is notorious for some far-out jersey designs. From the fluorescent Philadelphia Flyers, to the Toronto Maple Leafs looking like skating Michelin Men, this outdoor game has it all. Just a few months before the Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings face off at Falcon Stadium on the campus of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the home team's jersey appears to have leaked. SAN JOSE -- Suffice to say, the Sharks don't look like the same team that started a six-game homestand on Nov. 1 with one of the worst records in the NHL. With a 6-3 win over the Pacific Division-leading Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, the Sharks have won four in a row and appear to be climbing out of the hole they dug themselves in the first month of the season. Not to jump the gun or anything, The Sharks aren't out of the woods yet. Continue to Article
