The Los Angeles Dodgers' difficult April got a lot worse with news that two-time All-Star shortstop and 2016 NL Rookie of the Year Corey Seager will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the operation will be performed Friday in Los Angeles to repair a right ulnar collateral ligament sprain. Seager spoke to reporters in the dugout before the Dodgers played NL West rival Arizona on Monday night. Continue to Article

Pinch hitter Nick Hundley capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-out, two-run, walk-off single Monday night, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 6-5 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres. The improbable rally off Padres closer Brad Hand (1-3) came with San Diego left-hander Eric Lauer one out away from his first major league win. Instead, San Francisco right-hander Pierce Johnson (1-1), who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth, got his first major league victory. Continue to Article

Arizona center fielder A.J. Pollock hit three homers, Nick Ahmed added a homer, and Zack Greinke had his first 10-strikeout game of the season as the Diamondbacks held off the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 at Chase Field on Monday. Earlier in the day, the Dodgers learned shortstop Corey Seager will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Friday. Pollock hit bases-empty homers in the second and fifth innings to help Arizona grab a 5-0 lead. Continue to Article

Consider the Dodgers, muddling along at 12–16 after Monday’s loss and already trailing in the NL West by eight games. Los Angeles, last seen winning its first pennant in 30 years before falling in a wild World Series to Houston, is more than capable of erasing that kind of deficit in a week. Continue to Article

San Diego
Pinch-hitter Nick Hundley lined a two-run single off San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand with two outs in the ninth inning to give the San Francisco Giants a 6-5 comeback victory Monday night. The Giants scored in only two innings and trailed 5-3 in the ninth before rallying for their third straight win and seventh in nine games. Pinch-hitter Austin Slater was hit by Hand's first pitch in the ninth. After Gorkys Hernandez and Andrew McCutchen struck out, Buster Posey walked. Evan Longoria followed with an RBI single before Hand (1-3) walked Brandon Belt to load the bases. Hundley took a ball, then lined the game-winner into left-center. Posey scored standing up and Longoria crossed home plate sliding Continue to Article
