The NHL suspended Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson three games on Wednesday for an illegal hit on Pittsburgh's Zach Aston-Reese. The league announced the suspension less than 24 hours after Wilson broke Aston-Reese's jaw with a violent collision near the Washington bench in the second period of Washington's 4-3 Game 3 victory over the Penguins. The Washington Capitals forward was handed a three-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese. Aston-Reese suffered a broken jaw and a concussion stemming from the collision in the second period. Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson was suspended three playoff games by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Tuesday for a hit to the head of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese in Game 3 of their semifinal series. In the second period, Wilson delivered a check that made contact with Aston-Reese's head and sent the Penguins player face-down to the ice with what was later diagnosed as a broken jaw and a concussion, according to coach Mike Sullivan. According to the Department of Player Safety, reverse angles of the hit showed Aston-Reese's head snapped back in a manner consistent with other hits where the head was the main point of contact, and that his injuries would indicate that the head was the main point of contact as well. The NHL wants to have a talk with the Washington Capitals' Tom Wilson about a hit that left Pittsburgh Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese with a broken jaw and a concussion in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Tuesday night. The league announced on Wednesday that Wilson will have a hearing in front of the NHL Department of Player Safety later that same day to discuss the hit.
