Jason Vargas's progressing recovery from hand surgery this spring had already raised the question of how the team will manage a crowded rotation, but Matt Harvey's struggles as a starter this season have further complicated matters. It seems inevitable that someone will find themselves pitching out of the bullpen by the end of the month, so who is the best fit? Two weeks ago, the answer would assuredly have been Zack Wheeler. Since the early days of his major league career, many have seen a future reliever in him, perhaps even a closer. Despite strong tools, he's lacked the ability to go deep into games, and to put away batters consistently. He has also battled injuries throughout his career, Continue to Article

Though he vowed not to pick up his clubs this season, Yoenis Cespedes may resort to golf to break his early-season slump.  The Mets' left fielder, who was hitting .208 with 30 strikeouts entering Friday's contest against the Braves, had an RBI single in the top of the 12th to break a 3-3 tie. However, he stepped into the box wearing the infamous "Golden Sombrero" after striking out four times in row before his last at-bat. Robert Gsellman enjoyed a rare double dose of success for a pitcher: He earned a win on the mound while also scoring the go-ahead run in extra innings. Yoenis Cespedes, who struck out in his previous four at-bats, drove in Gsellman with a tiebreaking single with two outs in the 12th inning to lift the New York Mets to a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. Josh Ravin hit Gsellman with a pitch to open the 12th. Continue to Article

New York's Robert Gsellman pitched two innings of scoreless relief and scored the winning run in the 12th inning to give the Mets a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park. Gsellman, who batted for himself in the 12th, was hit by a pitch by Atlanta reliever Josh Ravin. Gsellman slid in ahead of the throw from right fielder Nick Markakis. Continue to Article

New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway says the team hasn't made a decision on what to do with struggling pitcher Matt Harvey. Asked Friday about Harvey's future, Callaway said, ''I think he made that pretty clear yesterday, that he wants to be a starter, and I don't blame him. ''I'm a starting pitcher,'' Harvey said after Thursday's game. Continue to Article
