Mets RHP Noah Syndergaard tossed 101 pitches and allowed one unearned run, while striking out 11 batters in 5 1/3 innings, during Sunday's 3-2 win against the Brewers at Citi Field. "I feel like this is finally a step in the right direction," Syndergaard told reporters after the game. Following his previous start, Syndergaard looked stressed and talked a lot about mechanics, which is almost always the default answer from a pitcher for reporters after a poor start. Mets manager Mickey Callaway didn't speak about his interactions with Syndergaard between starts, but my hunch is got him to slow things down, stop focusing on the body and, instead, focus on the Brewers, who has pitched well against during his career. Carlos Martinez fired seven shutout innings Sunday while Harrison Bader supplied a two-run homer as the St. Louis Cardinals polished off a four-game sweep of the reeling Cincinnati Reds with a 3-2 win at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Homer Bailey (0-3), who entered the game allowing a collective .459 average to the St. Louis lineup, pitched a good game but did not get enough support. The Cardinals upped their record to 9-7 with their first? Continue to Article

Wilmer Flores homered with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon to give the New York Mets a 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Citi Field. The Mets improved to 12-2 -- their best start ever -- and also have won five series to open a season for the first time. The Brewers are 8-8. Continue to Article

Milwaukee
Things you should know about today's game... 1) Wilmer Flores launched a two-out walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Mets to their ninth win in 10 games. The Brewers bullpen had retired 11 of the previous 12 batters before the homer. 2) Noah Syndergaard was dominant, albeit inefficient, during his fourth start of the year. The right-hander took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and ultimately allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 11, including eight consecutive batters from the second through the fourth, but he was removed after allowing a one-out single in the sixth on his 101st pitch. Amed Rosario committed a throwing error Continue to Article

After rolling along for nearly two weeks, the New York Mets met their match on the mound. Chase Anderson breezed into the seventh inning on a windy Fireworks Night at Citi Field, and the Milwaukee Brewers stopped New York's nine-game winning streak with a 5-1 victory Saturday. ''Chase was outstanding,'' Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. Continue to Article
