The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety has dropped the hammer on Nazem Kadri, and it might be heavier than the Toronto Maple Leafs can bear. Kadri’s emotional split-second decision during the Maple Leafs’ 5-1 Game 1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Saturday has resulted in a three-game suspension, meaning the Maple Leafs centreman will miss a crucial Game 2 in Boston, followed by Games 3 and 4 in Toronto. The suspension is a product of Kadri’s malicious third-period hit on Tommy Wingels, who was kneeling and facing the boards after throwing a check of his own, which appeared to target the head of Toronto’s Mitch Marner. Tuukka Rask wasn't the shining No. 1 star for Boston's 5-1 win in Game 1 over the Toronto Maple Leafs, nor was he a groan-worthy goat. The Finnish netminder stopped 26 shots, had the good fortune of a couple of pucks sliding through the crease without doing any damage, and was also aided by Jake Gardiner rocking the post with a bomb from the point in the first period. All of that was on display on Thursday night in the Bruins’ 5-1 blowout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs where he did pretty much everything that makes Marchand the player that he is. Boston
The Boston Bruins forward is usually going full-speed on the ice, whether it's chasing the puck on the forecheck or sizing up an opponent for a hit. When it does, it's kind of a waiting game,'' he said on Thursday night after bunting the puck into the net to help the Bruins beat Toronto 5-1 in the opener of their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series. Brad Marchand, David Backes and David Krejci each scored a power-play goal, and Tuukka Rask stopped 26 shots for Boston. Continue to Article
