Nashville forward Filip Forsberg stunned his teammates and the Colorado Avalanche with one dazzling sequence. Forsberg passed the puck to himself through his own legs and rookie defenseman Samuel Girard's legs on his way to his second goal of the third period, helping Nashville beat Colorado 5-2 on Thursday night in Game 1 of the first-round Western Conference series. After all, Nashville got the last invitation to the NHL postseason ball last season and then stuck around all the way into the middle of June, winning the Western Conference title before falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. This time, the Predators were first in line for the postseason, winning their first Presidents' Trophy with 117 points. Continue to Article

There were moments in such a sour season a year ago when Gabriel Landeskog doubted himself as a player. It just wore on him that much. Never once did he ever question this: His ability to lead the Colorado Avalanche. The longtime captain who's still just 25 galvanized a youthful squad this season through dinners, pingpong games, stepping into the role of mentor, assisting on one of the best lines in hockey, getting feedback from fellow veterans and even being a tour guide. His teammates have followed Landeskog's lead straight into the postseason. "Sometimes, you can doubt the things you're doing as a captain or if you're doing it right, but never if I wanted to be a captain," explained Landeskog, Continue to Article
