Mets C Kevin Plawecki suffered a broken left hand when he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday night's game against the Marlins in Miami, SNY's Steve Gelbs confirmed. However, the injury is viewed as short-term, with Plawecki expected to return in as little as two-to-three weeks, according to Gelbs. Manager Mickey Callaway and Plawecki had said after the game that X-rays on the hand were negative. However, an MRI Plawecki had in New York on Friday revealed a hairline fracture that will not require surgery, the Mets announced. Plawecki has been placed on the 10-day DL, retroactive to April 12, and a replacement for Plawecki will be announced later on Friday. While hitting in the eighth inning on Continue to Article

Kevin Plawecki's left hand was described as red and swollen, but not broken, following Wednesday's win against the Marlins. The Plawecki injury happened hours after the Mets announced Travis d'Arnaud had been diagnosed with a partially torn right UCL, which could require season-ending Tommy John surgery. Tommy John surgery for a position player is not as devastating (in terms of time lost) as it is for a pitcher's throwing elbow. The Mets replaced d'Arnaud on the active roster by calling up Double-A catching prospect Tomas Nido, but if Plawecki joins d'Arnaud on the disabled list, I expect the Mets will determine how to handle their catching situation based on how long they anticipate both men being absent. Todd Frazier hit his first two home runs with the Mets, new catcher Jose Lobaton tripled in his first at-bat with the team, and New York extended its winning streak to nine with a 6-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. Steven Matz ended an 11-start winless streak dating to June 28 as New York improved to 11-1 under new manager Mickey Callaway, the best start in team history. The Mets are on their longest winning streak since 11 consecutive victories from April 12-23, 2015. Mets players are celebrating throughout games with a salt-and-pepper shaker motion promoted by Frazier to signify their grinding approach. The gregarious New Jerseyite popularized a thumbs-down salute with Continue to Article

Mets C Travis d'Arnaud is still undecided about whether to undergo surgery for the partially torn UCL in his right elbow, which would end his season. "It would suck. It would suck," d'Arnaud told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo about the surgery. "These guys are so much fun to be around and there's such a winning atmosphere and a championship atmosphere around the clubhouse. It would suck. But who knows what's going to happen?" D'Arnaud, who was placed on the 10-day DL on Wednesday due to the injury, told DiComo he wasn't sure what percentage his UCL was torn. "I was just shocked when I heard the news," d'Arnaud told DiComo. "I was surprised, but what can you do? I just couldn't believe it, but what Continue to Article
