Philadelphia
Yesterday, while freezing at the Phillies home opener, it occurred to me that the term "bizzaro world" does not just apply to the equity markets, but also to baseball. Then, when Phillies rookie manager Gabe Kapler, starting just his sixth game at the helm, was loudly booed not once (his introduction at the start of the game), but twice (when he yanked Phils starter Nick Pivetta with 2 outs in the sixth inning), I knew I was in the Twilight zone. Within small cap specialty retail bizarre world, investors continue to reward some of the very same names that were all but left for dead several months ago. Continue to Article

Have you been to Coors Field out in Denver lately? There's a lovely BBQ joint out in left field called Bull's BBQ and there are some great eating options out in Ashburn Alley. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the Phanatic. He's a hoot Continue to Article

Gabe Kapler got booed twice, Nick Pivetta received a standing ovation and the Philadelphia Phillies celebrated winning their home opener with a nightclub atmosphere in the clubhouse. After several questionable decisions during a 1-4 trip to start the season, Kapler was booed during introductions before his first game as manager in Philadelphia. Maikel Franco had three hits and four RBI, Nick Pivetta pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and the Philadelphia Phillies won their home opener 5-0 over the Miami Marlins on Thursday at Citizens Bank Park. Franco was 3 for 4 with a single, triple and home run while Pivetta recorded nine strikeouts for his first win of the season as the Phillies were victorious after dropping four of their first five games on the road. Odubel Herrera also had a pair of hits for the Phillies, who received an early boost when Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Gabe Kapler's first home opener as Phillies manager went pretty smoothly Thursday afternoon. Oh, sure, the first-year skipper was booed, but he would have traded that for a win, and that's just what he got thanks to the starting pitching of Nick Pivetta, the offensive contributions of Maikel Franco and some nice work from the bullpen. Franco drove in four runs with a two-out single in the first inning and a two-run homer with one out in the seventh as the Phillies beat the Miami Marlins, 5-0, in front of 44,488 at Citizens Bank Park.
