The Boston Celtics’ already horrendous injury run took a further turn for the worst on Thursday, when it was confirmed Kyrie Irving will miss the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs because of an ongoing knee issue. On March 24, the 2016 NBA champion underwent what the Celtics described as a “minimally invasive procedure” to remove a tension wire that was inserted in his left knee three years ago, indicating he would be back within three to six weeks. The screws had become an issue for Irving, whose knee was regularly flaring up and who will now be out for five months. Continue to Article

A look at where things stand in the NBA playoff picture, with six days remaining in the regular season: EAST UPDATE Cleveland rallied from 17 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Washington, which might prove fortunate for both teams. When Kyrie Irving initially underwent a “minimally-invasive procedure” back on March 24th, the Celtics gave him a 3-6 week timetable to return. The Celtics did add that Irving’s patella has “completely healed” and that his knee remains “structurally sound,” but they ruled him out for the postseason and gave him a 4-5 month timetable. The Boston Celtics find themselves being counted out and discarded, a familiar place for a team that has spent most of this season exceeding expectations. Irving, who was a week-and-a-half into recovering from a "minimally invasive" procedure to remove a tension wire from his left kneecap surgery in 2015, will have another surgical procedure performed on Saturday to remove two screws to address an infection in his knee.
