The New York Rangers have known for a while they won't make the playoffs. Ryan Sproul scored and Kevin Hayes added a short-handed goal, and the Rangers beat the Hurricanes 2-1 on Saturday night to eliminate them from the playoff race. Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves for New York, which entered having lost three straight and six of seven - going 1-4-2 in that stretch - and was formally knocked out of the postseason chase earlier in the week. Ryan Sproul and Kevin Hayes scored in the second period and the New York Rangers held off the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2-1 victory that eliminated the Hurricanes from playoff contention Saturday night at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist came through with 40 saves as the Rangers swept all four meetings from the Hurricanes this season.
