Mickey Callaway was sheepish on Wednesday afternoon when asked if Michael Conforto would be activated prior to Thursday's game, but was blunt on Thursday morning after inserting Conforto in the lineup against the Nationals. "He's ready to go," Callaway said. "He wanted (Stephen) Strasburg." Conforto, whose initial return date was pegged by GM Sandy Alderson during the offseason as May 1, progressed rapidly -- to the point where the Mets felt he didn't need a rehab assignment. "I felt like I was ready," Conforto said on Thursday morning. "And I was excited for the opportunity to play against these guys, for sure. Against Strasburg and against a lot of good pitchers on this staff. Who wouldn't Continue to Article

Mets OF Michael Conforto has been activated from the 10-day disabled list, with Phillip Evans optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas to make room on the roster, it was announced Thursday morning. Mets manager Mickey Callaway said on Tuesday that potential cold weather in Washington, D.C. beginning on Thursday would not be a factor when it came to the decision on Conforto. Since Conforto's injury wasn't to his lower half, there is no concern over activating him in Washington, D.C., Callaway explained. Conforto, who is returning from shoulder surgery and was well ahead of schedule, had at-bats against Jason Vargas during Vargas's indoor simulated game on Monday afternoon at Citi Field. "Everything felt Continue to Article

The Mets have a lot to be satisfied with at this early point in the season, with the second-best batting average in baseball and an overall offense in the top third of the league. But behind those numbers are some very different stories -- some good and some not so good. While it's still early to come to any conclusions, let's take a look at the trends emerging for the 2018 Mets... The Good The team has been preaching a thoughtful approach at the plate for a long time and so far, it's paying off. Their .384 on base percentage is best in baseball, as is their 8.3 percent swinging strike rate. They are swinging at very few bad pitches and when they do swing, they're making contact at a rate that Continue to Article

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo was a lame duck this year. The Nats have a a .572 winning percentage since Rizzo took over as the GM in 2009, have won four division championships and are currently on a string of six consecutive winning seasons. The only knock on the club in that time is its inability to escape the first round of the playoffs, though that’s not the sort of thing in a GM’s control. Continue to Article
