The DeKalb County District Attorney's office is recommending Atlanta Hawks guard Dennis Schroder face felony aggravated battery charges stemming from an incident in September, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday. The newspaper cited court records as the source of the possible upgrade in the charge, which was initially misdemeanor battery after the Sept. 29 incident at a hookah bar in the Atlanta suburb of Brookhaven, where Schroder lives. The victim suffered "serious damage" to his knee and leg, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn meniscus, and will require multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation, according to the report. Authorities in DeKalb County, Georgia are recommending that misdemeanor battery charges against Atlanta Hawks guard Dennis Schroder be upgraded to a felony. According to court records obtained by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, DeKalb County's district attorney will look into charging Schroder with felony aggravated battery, which is punishable with a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. Police say video shows Schroder and three other men beat up the victim, striking him with feet and hands after they responded to calls about a fight in a hopping center parking lot.
