Atlanta
Gabe Kapler might end up with a torn rotator cuff by Memorial Day because of the repetitive stress of waving in relievers from the bullpen. Kapler wore out the hinges on the bullpen door again Friday night, but he got much better results from his relievers than he did the day before. Eight of them combined on seven innings of one-run ball in the Phillies' 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves in 11 innings at SunTrust Park (see breakdown). Continue to Article

Philadelphia
Gabe Kapler's managerial debut was, in a word, bizarre. With a series of unconventional substitutions, Kapler managed the Phillies from a probable Opening Day win to humiliating 8-5 loss to the Braves in Atlanta on Thursday. Nick Markakis hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Atlanta Braves an 8-5 come-from-behind win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday in the season opener at SunTrust Park. With the score tied 5-5, the Braves began the rally when Charlie Culberson led off the inning with a swinging-bunt single off reliever Hector Neris (0-1). Culberson was sacrificed to second by Ender Inciarte. Continue to Article

Atlanta
The Phillies opened their 136th season, and the Gabe Kapler era, with a demoralizing 8-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park on Thursday. The Phillies took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but could not hold it after Kapler pulled cruising starter Aaron Nola after 68 pitches. The Braves tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the eighth and won it on a three-run homer by Nick Markakis with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Continue to Article
