Bruins fans went from expecting an OK team with no shot at a deep playoff run to now believing the B's are the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. It's not because I don't think the Bruins are an excellent team. Here's what I think will happen: The Bruins will win the Atlantic Division, cruise past some buttbags in the first round and then play the Lightning in the second round. Continue to Article

Special teams and goaltending can often prove to the be difference between success or failure once the Stanley Cup playoffs get going in earnest, and that should bode very well for the Boston Bruins. The Bruins are third in in the NHL in goals against per game even if they're out of the running for the Jennings Trophy that the Los Angeles Kings are running away with at this point, so the goaltending has been strong all season. The B's special teams are executing as explosively as they have all season, and lead the NHL with 19 power play goals, and an NHL-high 54 chances, in 15 games played during the month of March. It looks like the Bruins will get another healthy body back for Saturday's tilt against the Florida Panthers as rookie Jake DeBrusk is expected to jump back into the lineup and take his normal spot on David Krejci's left wing. DeBrusk has missed eight games with an upper body injury suffered in the comeback win over the Carolina Hurricanes a couple of weeks ago, and officially rejoined the team for practice on Thursday morning after missing some time. Bruce Cassidy said that Donato might flip over to Krejci's right side with Rick Nash still out of the lineup, or could move to the third line left wing if the Bruins promote Danton Heinen to the second line with Krejci and DeBrusk. One couldn't be blamed if they watched the emotional Bruins win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night and mistook Tuukka Rask for vintage Tim Thomas. After all, it was Rask who that strong-armed the Bolts once again by stopping 26 of 28 shots in a 4-2 victory and it was Boston's No. 1 goalie who was at his best in the second and third periods when he made 20 saves with his team holding a one-goal lead. Rask's moving pad save on Nikita Kucherov in the third period was actually the key play at the key moment that directly led to Patrice Bergeron scoring in 4-on-4 play and giving Boston some breathing room when they really needed it. The intense, hard-fought Bruins over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night did more than just put the Bruins in the top spot in the Atlantic Division and in the Eastern Conference by virtue of their 107 points with six games remaining in the regular season. There was the statement to the Lightning that they can't win against the Bruins should they meet in the playoffs after Boston has beaten them handily twice in the past few weeks without Zdeno Chara, Charlie McAvoy or Jake DeBrusk in their lineup.
