Despite squandering a late lead, the San Jose Sharks still managed to keep winning. Kevin Labanc scored the deciding goal in the fourth round of a shootout and San Jose beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 on Monday night for its eighth straight victory. Labanc almost pulled to a stop in front of Chicago goalie Anton Forsberg, faked and then lifted in a nifty backhander. Continue to Article

The Vegas Golden Knights have defied the odds -- they are going to the Stanley Cup playoffs. With a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night, Vegas became the first NHL team to clinch a playoff berth in its inaugural season since the Oilers and Whalers did so in 1979-80. The Oilers, whose roster included Wayne Gretzky, and the Whalers, featuring Gordie Howe, came from the WHA following a merger. Dylan Sikura and the Chicago Blackhawks agreed to a two-year entry-level contract, the team announced on Sunday. Sikura will burn the first year of his deal playing in the last five games of this regular season as he is expected to be in the lineup on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets, per the Chicago Sun-Times. Many speculated Sikura would opt to become an unrestricted free agent if he waited until August 15, but the 22-year-old revealed his intentions have always been with the Blackhawks prior to signing. The Chicago Blackhawks are in an uncertain and wholly unfamiliar place. ''When you're not winning, it's not easy to get that confidence and enthusiasm,'' coach Joel Quenneville said after the Blackhawks snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night. Patrick Kane and Brandon Saad scored in the second period, and Brent Seabrook added an empty-netter for the Blackhawks. Continue to Article
