Philadelphia
Regardless of mitigating circumstances, games between the cross-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers tend to be hotly contested. On Sunday afternoon, when the Flyers visit PPG Paints Arena, there will be an added plot twist -- the way the outcome will affect the incredibly tight Metropolitan Division standings. Philadelphia (38-25-12) can pull even with Pittsburgh (42-27-6) in points with a regulation win, while the Penguins can gain some separation from the Flyers and keep their hopes alive for a division title. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are right around the corner and there is still a lot to be decided. The Metropolitan Division is going to come right down to the wire as each team seemingly continues to win and put the pressure on the first place Capitals. Washington is in good position with a four-point cushion between themselves and the second place Pittsburgh Penguins. Continue to Article

Wayne Simmonds and the Flyers are playing every game as if it's the postseason. Simmonds scored two goals to lift the Flyers past the Washington Capitals 6-3 on Sunday night, capping a four-point weekend and helping Philadelphia solidify its playoff position. Oskar Lindblom, Shayne Gostisbehere, Ivan Provorov and Jakub Voracek also had goals for Philadelphia (37-25-11, 85 points), which stayed in third place in the Metropolitan Division and moved within four points of the first-place Capitals (41-24-7, 89 points). Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Flyers are probably going to make the playoffs, but it’s not the safe bet it was looking like just a couple weeks ago.  Going into the month, the Flyers had a 34-19-10 record, but now they’re sitting at 35-25-11 after a 5-3 loss to Columbus last night. Currently the Flyers still hold the third spot in the Metropolitan Division, but just four points separate them and the Florida Panthers, which don’t occupy a playoff spot, but have 77 points in 68 contests after earning a 3-0 win over Boston on Thursday.  So if the Flyers don’t right their ship soon, they’ll be in a lot of trouble. As it stands, the Flyers' decision to acquire Petr Mrazek from Detroit hasn’t been paying off lately.  You can’t blame Philadelphia for acquiring a goaltender after losing both Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth to injuries, but Mrazek has looked ugly during the Flyers’ recent slump with a 1-5-1 record, 4.04 GAA, and .863 save percentage in seven March starts.  They need him to bounce back soon.
