Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol commended his team for a complete 60-minute effort that was needed to overtake and defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 at PNC Arena on Saturday night (see observations). Placing Alex Lyon in net to lead from the back end, the young netminder made 23 stops, many critical, that allowed the Flyers to generate momentum to strike all at once in the third period. The Flyers won 27 of 48 draws, a stat that eventually evened out, but was a critical one that the Flyers led in for two periods, before taking advantage of Carolina turnovers in the third. The Carolina Hurricanes’ search for a general manager is on hiatus. Sportsnet’s John Shannon reported Saturday that the process of replacing former GM Ron Francis is being put on hold for the time being, citing that owner Tom Dundon needs more time. “Tom hasn’t had the time he needs to do face to face interviews and feels that waiting will pay off,” Shannon wrote in a tweet. RALEIGH, N.C. --The Bruins executed an improbable, energizing third period comeback to take a 6-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena, but the hard-fought two points certainly might have come at a price. A Bruins team already missing Charlie McAvoy and Patrice Bergeron lost three more players to injury, Jake DeBrusk, Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara, before they engineered the comeback in the final 10 minutes of the third period.
