In the first-ever Minnesota Wild playoff series 15 years ago, the upstart team in only its third season after expansion rallied from a 3-1 deficit to upset the then-mighty Colorado Avalanche in Game 7 of the opening round. It was the start of a budding rivalry as the teams were both in the Northwest Division for more than a decade and now face each other in Central Division matchups several times per year. The latest will take place on Tuesday when the Avalanche come to Minnesota in need of a win versus a Wild team that may be bent on revenge. Continue to Article

The Los Angeles Kings will try to rebound from their largest margin of defeat at home in nearly 10 years when they host the Vancouver Canucks at Staples Center on Monday. The Kings lost 7-2 to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday afternoon to fall out of a playoff spot with 14 games remaining. If you’re a fan of big individual nights, then Tuesday was one for you.  We saw three hat tricks (Nick Bjugstad, Patrik Laine, and Brad Marchand), three players get four or more points (Brad Marchand, Anthony Mantha, and Torey Krug), three shutouts (John Gibson, Pekka Rinne, and Steve Mason), and the extension of Taylor Hall’s point streak to 19 games (or 26 games if you want to include the contests prior to his thumb injury). On top of all that, we also saw some franchise records broken.  The Nashville Predators set a new franchise record with their ninth consecutive win, topping their previous eight-game win streak from Oct. 2005.  The Minnesota Wild also scored four goals over the course of just 3:28 minutes, which is the shortest time between four goals in their franchise history. This year’s MVP race seems to be as wide open as any in recent memory with at least a dozen players — yes, a dozen — that could make a pretty convincing claim to the award depending on how you view it and what your definition of “value” is. When it comes to who will actually win the award the smart money should be on Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov, because that is how the voting usually goes. Continue to Article
