Calgary Flames and New York Islanders Thread

New York Islanders
The Islanders pulled off an impressive comeback last night fueled by a match penalty that resulted in four power-play goals.  I’ll go into that a bit more in the game-by-game report below, but I wanted to highlight Mathew Barzal specifically in this introduction. Barzal now has 16 goals and 58 points in 56 contests while the next best rookie, Brock Boeser, is sitting at 47 points.  It’s fair to say that Barzal is running away with this season’s Calder Trophy at this rate.  Barzal’s 1.04 points-per-game also puts him in fifth place among rookies dating back to the start of the salary cap era (min. 10 games played).  The only players who have done better are Alex Ovechkin (1.31 PPG), Sidney Crosby (1.26), Evgeni Malkin (1.09), and Connor McDavid (1.07).  That’s pretty nice company to have. Lundqvist made 28 saves in relief of Ondrej Pavelec, who injured his knee during the first period of an eventual 4-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday night. Continue to Article

Calgary Flames
Players of the Night: Brayden Schenn, St. Louis Blues: Another player who scored twice on Thursday night. Schenn set the tone early, fighting Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog three seconds after puck drop in the first period. He backed that Continue to Article

Calgary Flames
Michael Stone shot the puck and it ended up in the back of the net. Stone scored with 3:30 left on a shot that appeared to be tipped in by Johnny Gaudreau, and the Flames won 3-2 on Tuesday night, beating the Chicago Blackhawks for the second straight game. Dougie Hamilton and Sean Monahan also scored for Calgary (27-18-8), and Mike Smith made 34 saves in the opener of a six-game trip. Continue to Article
