The Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes might well have their claws out when they meet Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena -- not so much with the intention of playing a nasty game but rather to try to climb over the other's back in the tight Metropolitan Division. With Taylor Hall set to miss the next couple of games due to a hand injury, and with that injury putting his All-Star Game prospects in jeopardy, we look at the players who are worthy of replacing the New Jersey Devils forward if he has to miss this weekend’s festivities. Two names that immediately come to mind are Pittsburgh Penguins forward Phil Kessel and Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier. You can throw stats out there to explain how Scott Darling has been a disappointment for the Carolina Hurricanes. The hulking goalie sports an atrocious .892 save percentage and a mediocre 9-13-6 record so far as the Hurricanes’ starter, with Cam Ward shining by comparison (yet still not good enough). The Golden Knights are giving Vegas an incredible, odds-beating story in their first year on the ice. James Neal and Jonathan Marchessault scored to help the Golden Knights beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1 on Sunday night, giving the first-year franchise the best record in the NHL. Just like we all predicted in September, the Vegas Golden Knights are sitting in first place in the NHL. The Golden Knights’ 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes allowed them to collect their 65th and 66th points of the season, which moved them one point ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning for top spot in the league (both teams have played 46 games).
