Ottawa Senators
As he stood at the podium on Thursday with the Ottawa Senators’ bye week over, general manager Pierre Dorion said he still had hope for the playoffs. In looking at the last four seasons and the point totals of the teams that grabbed the final spot in the East, Ottawa would need 57 points in their final 39 games to hit that number of 95 points. Dorion noted they would have to go 28-11-1, 27-10-3, 26-9-5 or 25-8-7 to have a shot. Continue to Article

Alex Pietrangelo celebrated his 28th birthday by scoring his first goal in more than two months. Pietrangelo, Vladimir Tarasenko and Brayden Schenn each scored in the second period of the 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. Alexander Steen scored into an empty net at 18:42 to close out the scoring for St. Louis (28-17-3), while Carter Hutton made 20 saves. Continue to Article

Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs might not be a perfect team, but on paper, you wouldn’t expect them to go through many scoring droughts. Toronto also has solid supporting scorers in the likes of James van Riemsdyk and Nazem Kadri. Dry spells are going to come, but the heat is starting to rise on Mike Babcock’s lineup decisions. Toronto Maple Leafs
Alexander Steen pulled the St. Louis Blues back into the game, and then Vince Dunn finally got rewarded for a fabulous first performance in his home province. Steen tied it with 57 seconds left and Dunn scored 1:43 into overtime, lifting St. Louis over the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Tuesday night. Connor Brown put Toronto ahead on a short-handed breakaway midway through the third period, but Steen scored with goalie Carter Hutton pulled for an extra attacker by backhanding Alex Pieterangelo's rebound past Frederik Andersen. Ottawa Senators
There were some amazing offensive performances on Tuesday, but Tyler Johnson’s hat trick stands out among them, in no small part thanks to his amazing third goal where he beat out Carolina’s Noah Hanifin in a race to the puck and then outmaneuvered Cam Ward at the crease. Believe it or not, that’s the Lightning’s first hat trick of the season, which is remarkable when you consider how good Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos have been this season.  Johnson’s goal also highlights the Lightning’s superb offensive depth this season as he has 16 goals and 34 points in 42 contests, but ranks just fifth on the team’s scoring race.  He’s also one of seven Tampa Bay players with at least 30 points through 43 games.  Contrast that with Tampa Bay’s opponent last night, Carolina, which has two players with at least 30 points and the Hurricanes’ points leader is Teuvo Teravainen with 11 goals and 35 points in 42 contests.
