The Calgary Flames are going so well, they are rolling to easy victories even without their top scorer. Dougie Hamilton scored twice, Mike Smith made 38 saves and the Flames ran their winning streak to seven straight games with a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. The Calgary Flames got off to a mediocre start this season, but thanks to their red-hot play (sorry!) recently, they’ve managed to climb back into the Western Conference playoff picture. Last night’s 5-1 win over the first-place Tampa Bay Lightning was Calgary’s fifth consecutive victory. Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and an assist, Mike Smith made 33 saves, and the Flames beat the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 on Thursday night for their fifth straight victory. When you consider All-Star voting (in actual ballots and PHT ones) and midseason award picks, the Tampa Bay Lightning hold an almost unfair edge over the rest of the NHL halfway through 2017-18. Star defenseman Victor Hedman left tonight’s game against the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury and will not return.
