The Colorado Avalanche looked unstoppable early and shaky down the stretch in nearly blowing a big lead. Nathan MacKinnon scored twice during a 58-second span in the first period, Matt Nieto added a late insurance goal and the Avalanche won their eighth straight by holding off the San Jose Sharks 5-3 on Thursday night. The Pittsburgh Penguins seem like they might be heating up, but Phil Kessel‘s basically been on a roll all season long. Sunday provided a helpful reminder of that, all in one moment: Kessel scored his 20th goal of 2017-18 and the 700th regular-season point of his career in putting the Penguins ahead of the New York Rangers 3-2 heading into the second intermission.
