When Nashville ends a week off Tuesday night with a visit from the Vegas Golden Knights, it might not have the services of right winger Viktor Arvidsson. During practice on Monday -- the first time the Predators (25-11-6) have been on the ice since a 2-1 win on Jan. 9 against Edmonton -- Arvidsson suffered an apparent lower-body injury. If you were trying to project a potential 2018 Stanley Cup Final matchup at this moment two of the teams at the top of your list should probably be the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators. While the Lightning will have to deal with new contracts for restricted free agents Nikita Kucherov and Vladislav Namestnikov, and the Predators will have to deal with unrestricted free agencies for Pekka Rinne and Ryan Ellis, there aren’t really any other significant core players that will eligible for unrestricted free agency at any point over the next three years. Jozy Altidore has fired back at United States President Donald Trump over reported comments demeaning the countries and people of Africa, Haiti and El Salvador. Trump, during negotiations over immigration, was reported to have responded to a proposal to restore protections for people from those areas with a question of why the U.S. was allowing “all these people from s**thole countries” to immigrate. The comments have caused massive global outrage and charges of racism, as President Trump followed up by asking why the U.S. doesn’t allow more people from places like Norway instead. As you’ve noticed from interminable waiting periods for marginal calls – in the NHL, but also in plenty of other sports, with the NFL providing some of the funniest optics over the years – it can be excruciating in practice. In particular, offside goal reviews continue to annoy, and Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid vented last night about a would-be 2-2 goal that didn’t survive because Jujhar Khaira was “an arm hair” offside.
