Calgary Flames
Wednesday’s game in Chicago was your classic four-point game as the Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild entered the night in a three-way tie for the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference with 48 points. It was the Wild that ended up taking advantage of the point swing a regulation win would provide as they moved into sole possession of that last playoff spot thanks to their 2-1 win. The win not only came after the Wild had lost back-to-back games, including an ugly 7-2 loss in Colorado last week, but also snapped what had been a four-game road losing streak. Continue to Article

Dougie Hamilton made sure the Calgary Flames started a crucial road trip on a winning note. Hamilton scored 2:39 into overtime to lift Calgary over the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Tuesday night. Micheal Ferland and Sean Monahan each had a goal and assist and Johnny Gaudreau added three assists for the Flames, who began a four-game trip with a season-high fourth straight win. The preparation on this stick toss by Glen Gulutzan is nearly perfect. Calgary Flames
Expectations were high for the Calgary Flames heading into the season and so far it would not be unfair to say the team has not really met them. Given how much money the Flames spent this offseason and the talent that was returning it is only natural that there is going to be a little bit of frustration at this point. On Friday, that frustration seemed to reach a boiling point for coach Glen Gulutzan as he was not particularly pleased with the team’s performance or effort in practice. Continue to Article

Sean Monahan and Micheal Ferland each had a goal and an assist as the Calgary Flames scored four times in the second period Thursday night for a 4-3 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Calgary trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes, but Ferland sparked the rally at 2:34 when he got behind the Kings' defense and his shot squeezed under the pads of Jonathan Quick for his 16th goal. By the time Monahan capped the outburst on a wrist shot at 19:15, Calgary was ahead 4-2 and had completely taken over the game - outshooting the Kings 17-5 in the second period. Continue to Article
