Giroux had carved out quite the nice niche as a top centerman in the NHL as a point-per-game player who could play at both ends of the ice and win a pile of faceoffs. The move, however, may be head coach Dave Hakstol’s best piece of genius thus far, and not just because Giroux has rekindled the form he exhibited a few years ago, but because of what he’s been able to do to help out Sean Couturier and the Flyers’ fearsome top line as a whole. Coming into the Flyers' game with the Red Wings, Hagg had attempted 79 shots - 37 of those were saved and the other 42 hit the opponent's body or just missed everything altogether. After so many close losses recently, the Detroit Red Wings were glad to get a win when they didn't play their best. Trevor Daley scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period and the Red Wings rallied to beat the New York Islanders 6-3 on Tuesday night for just their third victory in 13 games.
