The proposed class action, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of six plaintiffs who say Weinstein assaulted them—in some cases with the assistance of employees from The Weinstein Co. or Miramax—includes civil claims under the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The defendants—referred to collectively in the suit as the “Weinstein Sexual Enterprise”—worked together to prevent disclosure and prosecution of Weinstein’s alleged behavior through extortion, threats and harassment, the plaintiffs allege, and through misrepresentations to the media and to Weinstein’s alleged victims. In a statement forwarded by a spokeswoman for Hagens Berman, managing partner Steve Berman said the suit presents a “classic RICO case.” “Exactly what we have here is an enterprise of many assisting Weinstein’s unlawful conduct, and RICO prohibits unlawful enterprises,” Berman said. An MRI exam performed in Charlotte, N.C., displayed no structural damage and the Warriors said Curry will be re-evaluated in two weeks. -- New York Knicks guard Tim Hardaway Jr., the team's second-leading scorer, will be sidelined for at least two weeks because of a "stress injury" in his lower left leg, the team announced. Authorities charged a man Tuesday in connection with the slaying of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, more than seven years after Wright's bullet-riddled body was found decomposing in a Tennessee suburb. Wright's body was found in suburban Memphis on July 28, 2010, 10 days after the 34-year-old was reported missing. Police in Memphis have charged a man with the 2010 murder of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, according to The Commercial Appeal. Billy Turner, 46, was indicted Tuesday on a charge of first degree murder. The arrest comes one month after police announced they had found the murder weapon in a Mississippi lake, about 50 miles from where Wright’s body was found on July 28, 2010. Continue to Article
