Florida Panthers
Denis Malgin helped the Florida Panthers avoid a bad loss and get consecutive wins for just the third time this season. Malgin scored with 1:09 left and the Florida Panthers recovered after giving up two three-goal leads to beat the New York Rangers 5-4 Tuesday night. Malgin - called up on Monday and playing in his seventh game for Florida this season - beat Rangers goalie Ondrej Pavelec from the inside edge of the left circle for his first of the season. San Jose Sharks
The Sharks scored three unanswered goals, including Joe Thornton's 5-on-3 power-play goal near the end of the opening period that proved to be the game-winner. Coming off a disastrous ending in Pittsburgh that saw the Flyers blow a two-goal, third-period lead and another lead late in the game (see story), Dave Hakstol's team turned in a sloppy, turnover-filled effort. • The Flyers couldn't have asked for a better start as Claude Giroux fired a one-timer off a feed from Jakub Voracek for his 11th goal of the season just 48 seconds into the game. When adjusting for blowouts and different arenas, the Jets are 20th and 21st in the major possession metrics (corsi and fenwick, respectively), according to Puck on Net. The San Jose Sharks, meanwhile, are one of the three best possession teams by both metrics when adjusting for score and venue. Continue to Article

San Jose Sharks
Coming into Friday’s game, what was stranger: Brent Burns having zero goals on the season despite 84 shots on goal in 20 games, or the Vegas Golden Knights leading the Pacific Division? Both points ended up being relevant to the discussion, as Burns finally scored his first goal of 2017-18 to help the San Jose Sharks rally for a “loser point,” but the Golden Knights ultimately won 5-4 in OT. With that, the Golden Knights won their fourth game in a row and now have 29 standings points, making for at least a slight cushion for the Pacific Division lead (the Kings are in action, but at 26 points, they’ll trail Vegas even if they manage a comeback win). Florida Panthers
The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't won a playoff series since 2004, but at least they returned to the postseason in 2016-17 after a three-year absence. This season, the Leafs (14-8-0) are looking like actual Stanley Cup contenders, and hope to continue their roll against the Florida Panthers at the BB&T Center on Wednesday night. The Panthers, who just got back from a 1-2-0 California trip, are in next-to-last place in the Atlantic Division with 16 points. Continue to Article
