Player of the night: Alex DeBrincat, Chicago Blackhawks. What made the Chicago Blackhawks a mini-dynasty a few years ago wasn’t just the fact they had a bunch of top-line players and superstar talents. Often times young players on cheap, entry level deals. The New York Islanders didn't wait very long to put a bad loss the previous night behind them. John Tavares scored early to start New York's three-goal first period, Thomas Greiss stopped 35 shots and the Islanders beat the St. Louis Blues 5-2 Saturday night. Anders Lee had a goal and an assist, and Casey Cizikas, Jordan Eberle and Joshua Ho-Sang also scored to help the Islanders bounce back from a 5-0 loss at Dallas one night earlier. Continue to Article

Brandon Saad missed an early opportunity for the Chicago Blackhawks, but he rose to the occasion when it really counted. Saad scored at 1:44 of overtime to give Chicago a 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. Alex DeBrincat scored two goals and Gustav Forsling had one for Chicago, which scored three times after falling behind 3-1. Continue to Article

For the second straight game, the Blackhawks lacked some jump from the get-go and spent the first half of the opening frame chasing the Hurricanes, who peppered 14 shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. To the Blackhawks' credit, they bounced back and finished the period with 30 shot attempts (16 on goal) but not before allowing two goals to Brock McGinn - his first of the night - and Jeff Skinner. They also came up empty on their lone power play opportunity. The Blackhawks have now been outscored 11-8 in the first period since the first two games of the season when they outscored Pittsburgh and Columbus by a combined 7-0. Continue to Article
