Singer Justine Skye took a knee as she sang the national anthem before the Brooklyn Nets’ home opener against the Orlando Magic on Friday night. “Got a bit shaky at the end… was pretty uneasy about singing the anthem and probably won’t ever be invited to sing it again,” Skye later posted on Instagram. “We will not be silenced.” Skye captioned her post with the #blacklivesmatter hashtag, in an apparent show of solidarity with the movement. Singer Justine Skye dropped to a knee toward the end of her rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner prior to the Brooklyn Nets home opener against the Orlando Magic on Friday. Some NFL players have sat or taken a knee during renditions of the song the past two seasons to protest racial inequality in the United States but NBA players have stood in accordance with league rules. Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady, inducted earlier this year into the Basketball Hall of Fame, was named on Friday as a special assistant to Orlando Magic chief executive Alex Martins. McGrady, who played for the Magic from 2000 to 2004, will be available to players and coaches as well as assisting and advising executives in several areas, including promotions.
