Toronto Maple Leafs
Bashing Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers over the head with five goals in the first 17 minutes in Saturday’s home opener (and the last while it be named Air Canada Centre), the Maple Leafs appeared to let off the gas like they had on numerous occasions during their resurgence last season, and wouldn’t re-locate the pedal until forced to start over at 5-5. Tyler Bozak, Leo Komarov and Nazem Kadri scored third-period goals and Toronto held off the New York Rangers 8-5 on Saturday night in their wild home opener. The scoreboard weighs in at 88,041 pounds, covers 9,584.9 square feet and contains over 29 million SMD pixels for fans’ viewing pleasure—the equivalent of 1,300 50-inch TV sets. Continue to Article

Toronto Maple Leafs
No one will be surprised by the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. Not after a 26-point jump in 2016-17, when the Leafs improved to 40-27-15, finished eighth in the Eastern Conference and pushed the first-place Washington Capitals to six games - five of which ended in overtime - before being eliminated. Since then, Toronto has added veteran forwards Patrick Marleau and Dominic Moore and defenseman Ron Hainsey, who have a combined 3,548 games between them. Continue to Article

New Jersey Devils
After attending New Jersey Devils camp on a tryout contract Jimmy Hayes did enough to show management that he was worthy of a roster spot for the 2017-18 season. TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported on Sunday morning that the Devils have signed Hayes to a one-year contract that will pay him a salary of $700,000. NJ agrees to terms with forward Jimmy Hayes, who was at camp on PTO. Continue to Article
