Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals Thread

Team Tweets & News Articles
St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals have been eliminated from contention for the NL Central crown and are hanging on by the thinnest of threads in the race for the second NL Wild Card, two and a half games back of the Rockies with the Brewers in between. Last night those dim playoff hopes took what may have been a fatal blow thanks to a couple of foul balls that knocked Yadier Molina out of the game and, possibly, out for the season. In the seventh inning of last night’s Cubs-Cardinals game Molina took a Kris Bryant foul ball off of his mask. Continue to Article

Chicago Cubs
Addison Russell and the Chicago Cubs were all smiles after moving within a victory of another division title Monday night. Russell hit a three-run double in the first inning, then made a food run for a fan in enemy territory while the Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-2. Chicago can wrap up the division with a win Tuesday against the Cardinals or a loss by Milwaukee against Cincinnati. Continue to Article

Addison Russell hit a three-run double in the first inning, then made a food run for fans in enemy territory while the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-2 Monday night to move within a win of cinching a second straight NL Central title. Chicago can wrap up the division with a win Tuesday against the Cardinals, or a loss by Milwaukee against Cincinnati. Russell helped the Cubs build a big lead early, then made some friends out of rival fans. He delivered nachos to a fan down the third-base line a few innings after diving into the stands and spilling the fan's original plate of chips. Jon Lester (12-8) pitched six innings, allowing five hits and a run for the Cubs. Chicago is 11-2 in Continue to Article

Chicago Cubs
ST. LOUIS – Jon Lester went into get-off-my-lawn-mode, tired of math nerds and people being famous for no reason and the questions about whether or not he will be ready for the playoffs.    Lester is actually a great talker when he gets going, introspective, self-deprecating and a voice of authority after winning three World Series rings with the Cubs and Boston Red Sox. But Lester didn’t exactly sound ready to pop champagne bottles after Monday night’s 10-2 win at Busch Stadium eliminated the St. Louis Cardinals from the National League Central race and guaranteed at least a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for the division title.   Whether it was Lester’s brutal honesty, simmering frustration Continue to Article

Chicago Cubs
Sorry, Pittsburgh Pirates, but you won’t sit on the Iron Throne this season. There were bright spots for the Pirates — like Jameson Taillon’s return from a cancer scare and Andrew McCutchen’s return to being a productive player. Though not entirely back to his previous MVP level, Andrew McCutchen bounced back with a pretty nice season (.273/.358/.470 with 26 homers and 79 RBIs). Continue to Article
