Washington Nationals
According to a report by Washington Post writer Chelsea Janes this afternoon, which cited “people familiar with the situation”, Bryce Harper will return to the Washington Nationals’ lineup on Monday night in Philadelphia after missing 40 games. MASN’s Mark Zuckerman too has spoken to sources who say Harper, barring any sort of setback in the next twenty-four hours, will return to the lineup against the Phillies. Harper, 24, suffered a significant bone bruise in his left knee and a calf strain in his left leg when he slipped on a wet first base bag while running out a grounder in an August 12th game in the nation’s capital. The hope from the start, after the initial diagnosis, was that Harper Continue to Article

You know nothing, Jayson Werth. Is Bryce Harper a direwolf? Ghost? Please don’t tell me Trea Turner is being cast as Joffrey? I used to like you, Trea. There are some Unsullied. There are some Faith Militant. I think Stephen Strasburg is Beric Dondarrion? That is... kind of awesome, Stras. Can you pick out any more? We have everyone’s favorite left-hander Sammy Solis to thank for the following pics as the Nationals dressed up and prepared to travel from New York to Philadelphia for the start of a three-game set with the Phillies tomorrow night. Oh, and nice job working your way out of that bases-loaded jam you inherited today, Sammy. Here are some pics of the Nationals as Game of Thrones characters: Continue to Article

Philadelphia Phillies
Two more minor league pitchers, 21-year-old, 2017 9th Round pick Alex Troop, a lefty, and 20-year-old Steven Fuentes, a righty, came to Citi Field from West Palm Beach, FL on Saturday afternoon to pitch to Bryce Harper before the second of three between the Washington Nationals and Mets in Flushing, Queens, New York. It was the second simulated game for Harper, who’s been out of the Nats’ lineup since August 12th, when he suffered a significant bone bruise in his left knee and calf strain slipping on a wet first base bag in the nation’s capital. Harper has been through several sessions of batting practice, he’s run the bases to test his knee, shagged fly balls, and taken part in two simulated Continue to Article

Washington Nationals
It’s been a rough season for Shawn Kelley, who left Friday night’s series opener in Citi Field with an issue that sounded similar to the one the reliever dealt with late in the Washington Nationals’ Game 5 loss in the NLDS last October. Kelley was 19 pitches in when he felt something in his right forearm and called the trainer out to the mound. In 33 outings this season, after tonight, the 33-year-old right-hander has a 7.27 ERA, an 8.62 FIP, 11 walks (3.81 BB/9), 25 Ks (8.65 K/9) and 12 HRs allowed (4.15 HR/9) in 26 IP, after he gave up nine home runs total (1.40 HR/9) in 58 IP in 2016, over which he put up a 2.64 ERA, a 2.97 FIP, 11 walks (1.71 BB/9) and 80 Ks (12.41 K/9). In the second year Continue to Article

Philadelphia Phillies
In the end, things reverted to form: The Dodgers won and the Phillies lost. The Dodgers are headed to the playoffs, the Phillies to who-knows-where. Los Angeles scored twice in the seventh inning Thursday afternoon to beat the Phils, 5-4, and salvage the finale of a four-game series (see observations). The Dodgers, the majors’ best team at 97-56, lowered their magic number to one for clinching a fifth straight NL West championship. The Phils, baseball’s second-worst team at 61-92, were left with a lovely parting gift: hope. “I think it’s a good lesson,” J.P. Crawford, the rookie shortstop-turned-third baseman, said of the series as a whole. “It showed us, or showed me, we can compete with the Continue to Article
