Tigers’ manager Brad Ausmus announced that he has no intention of shutting down veteran infielder Miguel Cabrera for the remainder of the regular season, according to pregame comments made on Sunday. Cabrera was removed from Saturday’s 10-4 loss to the White Sox after experiencing a flare-up of lower back tightness. Carson Fulmer didn't exactly set the world on fire in Triple-A Charlotte this year, but with the White Sox trading away multiple starting pitchers and with Carlos Rodon out with an injury, he's getting a chance with the big league club. After a first start to forget on Aug. 21, Fulmer has been much better since being called back up as rosters expanded in September. Fulmer delivered a second straight quality start in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Tigers. He gave up one run on four hits and a walk while striking out five in six innings. Mikie Mahtook gave the Detroit Tigers a reason to smile amid a miserable end to the 2017 season. Mahtook hit a game-ending RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning, lifting Detroit over the Chicago White Sox 3-2 to end a six-game skid.
