Boston Red Sox
BOSTON -- Matt Olson hit a two-run homer, Jed Lowrie drove in two runs and the Oakland Athletics rebounded for a 7-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox to win for the sixth time in seven games Wednesday night. The loss sliced Boston's lead in the AL East to three games over the second-place New York Yankees, who beat Tampa Bay 3-2. Oakland, which owns the majors' worst road record (22-48), snapped an eight-game losing streak away from home. The A's had dropped their past seven at Fenway Park. Dustin Pedroia had three singles for Boston to extend his hitting streak against the A's to 26 games. The Red Sox had won five of six. Jharel Cotton (8-10) picked up the win, allowing three runs in five innings. Continue to Article

Boston Red Sox
As we wrote last night, during the fourth inning of Wednesday night’s game between the Athletics and Red Sox, some people sitting behind the Green Monster at Fenway Park unfurled a black banner with white text that read, “Racism is as American as Baseball.” The banner was confiscated and the fans were kicked out of the park. “There were originally about eight people involved who had this idea, and those eight people come from various organizing groups in the Boston area,” the group member said by phone. “But overall, we saw, we see Boston continually priding itself as a kind of liberal, not racist city, and are reminded also constantly that it’s actually an extremely segregated city. As we said, we suspected it was an anti-racism banner, even if it was a rather ham-fisted sentiment. That was confirmed by Evan Drellich of CSNNE.com last night, who spoke to one of the members of the group of five who were involved in the unfurling of the banner: “There were originally about eight people involved who had this idea, and those eight people come from various Continue to Article

Boston Red Sox
Four spectators were removed from a Boston Red Sox baseball game on Wednesday night after unfurling a black banner that read ‘Racism is as American as Baseball’ as the team hosted the Oakland Athletics at Fenway Park. The protesters, in a statement to the Washington Post, said that they were a group of white anti-racist protesters. “We want to remind everyone that just as baseball is fundamental to American culture and history, so too is racism. The Boston Red Sox ejected four people from Fenway Park on Wednesday night after a banner reading “Racism is as American as baseball” was draped over one of the stands. The sign appeared during the middle of the fourth inning of the Red Sox’ 7-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics, according to the The Boston Globe, in the front row of Section Six of the “Monster Seats” positioned behind Fenway Park’s famous “Green Monster” wall. “We want to remind everyone that just as baseball is fundamental to American culture and history, so too is racism.
