Yankees RHP Chad Green has 15 strikeouts and has allowed just two hits in 7 1/3 innings over his last four outings, as he has turned into one of manager Joe Girardi's more reliable relievers. "His control has been outstanding, and his fastball plays up out of the bullpen, and his slider has been good out of the bullpen," Girardi said, according to the New York Post's Ken Davidoff, after Green retired all seven batters he faced in Monday's 7-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles.. "Similar to Dellin [Betances], it's been simplifying. He doesn't need to be a three- or four-pitch pitcher anymore. He's just been a two-pitch guy, and it's been successful for him." While Green went 2-4 with a 4.73 ERA in Continue to Article

Starter Brandon Barker got his first taste of Triple-A with the O's organization as a presumably emergency fill-in starter. He needed just 77 pitches to get through five innings, with one unearned run scoring across four hits and one walk allowed. Barker struck out six batters. The bullpen melted down in the eighth inning as two relievers combined to allow five runs to send the Tides into the loss column to close out their season. Richmond (Giants) 4, Bowie Baysox 3 This is not the end of the road for Bowie, as they have qualified for the Eastern League playoffs. They tied the game in the top of the eighth only to fall behind again in the bottom of the inning. Season-long top performer Austin Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Hello, friends. Another day has dawned with the Orioles in third place in the American League East. They are seven games behind the division-leading Red Sox, and although manager Buck Showalter says he's trying to chase them down, that isn't a very realistic goal with just 24 games left to play. What is more realistic is the Orioles wild card chances, as the team still sits just 1.5 games back of the Twins for the second wild card spot. Though they dropped a bummer of a game on Labor Day, the Twins lost too. The O's now also have the Angels to pass on the way to claim a playoff spot. ESPN gives their playoff odds as 8.4%, or about the odds of hitting a two outer on the river in Texas Hold'em. Continue to Article

The Cubs gave Brett Anderson $3.5 million guaranteed, a clear spot in their rotation and the chance to pitch in front of what had been a historic defensive unit, making him the only guy on the Opening Day roster who hadn’t already earned a World Series ring. The Cubs got close to a zero return on that investment, but those are the gambles teams take on the free-agent market with talented, injury-prone pitchers, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Anderson put up an 8.18 ERA in six starts and accounted for 22 innings before going on the disabled list for the 10th time since 2010. It became out of sight, out of mind as the lefty recovered from another back injury, got designated for assignment in late July and signed a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays. Baltimore Orioles
This Labor Day divisional clash looked as though it was going to be an opportunity for the Orioles to inch closer to holding onto a postseason spot. Baseball is an odd game however, and the visiting Yankees eventually took control in the middle innings and didn’t look back. Below, the recap of a Monday afternoon, series-opening loss at Camden Yards. The recap After Dylan Bundy tossed a scoreless first inning, Tim Beckham took advantage of another leadoff opportunity to prove that his presence in the every-day lineup might be the most underrated factor of the current wild card picture. He’s very, very good. On a 3-1 fastball that Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery left up in the zone, Beckham gave Continue to Article
