Oakland Athletics
Andrew Heaney didn't need much time to get back in a groove, and it's just soon enough for the Los Angeles Angels and their postseason push. Heaney struck out a career-high 10, Martin Maldonado had three hits and scored twice and the Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1 on Monday night. Heaney (1-0), making his third start since Tommy John surgery, struck out the side in the first and the sixth innings. Continue to Article

Barry Zito has been playing guitar for his entire baseball career. For Barry Zito, playing guitar was just a way to pass the time on bus trips and hotel rooms in the minors. The former pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants has fully transitioned from a life in baseball to a life making music (he released his first EP of six songs back in January, and it reached No. 39 on the Billboard country chart), and he talked about it in an interview with WBUR, one of Boston’s public radio stations. Khris Davis sees no need to talk up his home run-hitting power from the past two seasons, even after he had a career-high 42 last season and brought his 2017 total to 36 with two more Friday night. Davis, wearing ''Khrush'' on his jersey for Players Weekend, hit a go-ahead homer leading off the seventh after his tying solo shot in the fourth to power the Oakland Athletics past the Texas Rangers 3-1 on Friday night. Davis' initial homer was the first hit against right-hander Nick Martinez. Continue to Article

Boog Powell, meet Boog Powell. The name's the same, and they're both known for playing baseball. It's a bit early, however, to start comparing their home run swings. Former Baltimore slugger Boog Powell met with Oakland Athletics leadoff hitter Boog Powell at the popular "Boog's BBQ" stand beyond the right-field wall at Camden Yards before the O's hosted the A's on Tuesday night. They're not related, but they knew plenty about each other before they met. "Every time I play somewhere I'd hear it from the stands," the younger Powell said. "He said he's heard about me, too. He gets asked if I am his grandson." The elder Powell hit 339 home runs in the big leagues. The other guy has one — a drive Continue to Article

The Seattle Mariners acquired All-Star first baseman Yonder Alonso from the Oakland Athletics on Sunday for minor league outfielder Boog Powell. The Mariners, who have not been in postseason play since 2001, entered a Sunday doubleheader at Kansas City, trailing the Royals by 1+ games for the second wildcard spot. Alonso, 30, is hitting .266 with 17 doubles, 22 home runs and 49 RBI. Continue to Article
