Cleveland Indians
Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Indians is having a sneaky great season, punctuated by five extra-base hits on Sunday, including two home runs including one of the most bizarre home runs you will ever see. In the first inning, Ramirez hit a ball that bounced off the yellow line atop the left field wall. The ball caromed straight up, then hit to the top of the wall again, and bounced back toward Detroit Tigers left fielder Mikie Mahtook, who tried to make a barehanded stab. Only the unthinkable happened, and Mahtook ended up knocking the ball over the fence. Perhaps the most famous oops home run in recent baseball history was when Jose Canseco had a fly ball bounce directly off his noggin and over Continue to Article

Cleveland Indians
Jose Ramirez tied a major league record with five extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs that deflected off Detroit outfielders, and the Cleveland Indians routed the Tigers 11-1 Sunday for their 11th straight victory. Ramirez had three doubles in becoming the 13th player with five extra-base hits in a game. Kris Bryant of the Cubs did it last year, and the previous Cleveland player to accomplish the feat was Kelly Shoppach in 2008. The AL Central-leading Indians have their longest winning streak since a team-record 14-game run last year. Ramirez went 5 for 5, driving in three runs and scoring three. Ramirez hit a strange solo homer in the first. The ball hit the yellow padding on top Continue to Article

Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers outfielder Mikie Mahtook didn’t quite pull a Canseco on Sunday, but he probably isn’t eager to see the replay of this highlight. In the top of the first inning, Mahtook was involved in one of the strangest home runs we’ve seen this season. With a 3-1 count, Cleveland Indians third baseman José Ramírez smacked a 92 mph fastball to deep left field. Continue to Article

Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu is back in the White Sox lineup because it’s important that he plays every day. Why is it so important? “Because my mom is not happy when I’m not playing.” Good answer. Abreu’s return won’t end up meaning much, considering this team entered Sunday with the worst record in the American League. But the slugger’s pleading with manager Rick Renteria to play during his three-game absence while nursing an elbow injury shows far more about what he means to this White Sox team and White Sox teams of the future. “I was begging him to be in the lineup and he finally believed me,” Abreu said through an interpreter on Sunday. “It’s difficult for me to be on the bench with the team, and I’m passing Continue to Article
