Philadelphia Phillies
MIAMI — The Phillies, one of the youngest teams in baseball, almost got beat by a rookie making his major-league debut. But not quite. Maikel Franco, who had struggled earlier in the game, doubled to lead off the ninth, sparking a 2-1 Phillies’ victory over the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park on Friday night. After Franco doubled off closer Brad Ziegler (1-3), who had entered the game with 13 consecutive scoreless innings, the Phillies cashed in when Jorge Alfaro stroked an RBI single and Andres Blanco hit a run-scoring groundout. Blanco’s heroics weren’t limited to the plate. He dug out a throw in the dirt from Hector Neris at first base and tumbled over onto the ground to record the game’s final Continue to Article

Philadelphia Phillies
Giancarlo Stanton's not giving the tape measure much of a workout this week. The Phillies were shut out for seven innings by major league newcomer Dillon Peters, and Miami's Brad Ziegler (1-3) took a 1-0 lead and a 13-inning scoreless streak into the ninth. Stanton, the major league home run leader, went 0 for 2 with two walks and is 1 for 17 this week. Continue to Article

Phillies (51-83) at Marlins (66-68) 7:10 p.m. on CSN; streaming live on CSNPhilly.com and the NBC Sports App After the Phillies picked up their second straight win Friday, here are some thoughts prior to the third of four games with the Fish in Marlins Park this weekend: • Friday's 2-1 win is one of the many types of games that normally have gone against the Phillies this season. They have 31 one-run losses, the most in baseball, and typically would have put up a little fight down 1-0 in the ninth or blown their newfound lead soon after scoring two.  In picking up the save, Hector Neris looked quite sharp. Four swinging strikes in 10 total pitches while pitching a 1-2-3 inning against Christian Continue to Article

Philadelphia Phillies
MIAMI – It wasn’t a fatal blow, but the Phillies landed a damaging dagger to the heart of the Miami Marlins and their fading playoff hopes with a 3-2 win on Thursday night at Marlins Park. Ben Lively (2-5) earned the win by allowing just two runs in six innings. He also drove in two runs in an all-around performance. (OK, he made a throwing error, but still …) Hector Neris earned his 17th save the very hard way, loading the bases before striking out J.T. Realmuto, who watched a 2-2 fastball for strike three.   With the win, the Phillies (50-83) became the last team in the majors to reach 50 victories. The Marlins (66-67) fell six games behind the Colorado Rockies in the battle for the final wild-card Continue to Article
