Baltimore Orioles
The calendar is turning over to September, which for baseball means one thing: Call-ups. The Orioles will be adding some reinforcements to their team from the minor leagues when rosters expand. On Thursday night, Norfolk Tides beat writer David Hall of The Virginian-Pilot reported that one player who will be joining the Orioles is top catching prospect Chance Sisco. Along with Sisco, Hall reported that outfielder Joey Rickard and slugger Pedro Alvarez will be headed up to Baltimore from the Triple-A affiliate. So will at least one pitcher: reliever Jimmy Yacabonis. For now, that seems to be all, although after watching the Orioles rotation, I would like at least one long man to join the bullpen Continue to Article

MINNEAPOLIS -- The White Sox remain in let’s-make-a-deal-mode, Miguel Gonzalez has pitched well for six weeks and yet he’s still here. If you’re surprised by that development, you’re not alone. Even the White Sox starting pitcher’s manager reflected his astonishment about the status of Gonzalez roughly 90 minutes before he took the mound on Thursday. Gonzalez pitched well yet again, though the White Sox ultimately lost to the Minnesota Twins 5-4 at Target Field. It was the eighth quality start produced by the free-agent-to be in nine outings since he returned from the disabled list on July 18. The waiver trade deadline for Major League Baseball falls at 11 p.m. CST on Thursday night. “A little Continue to Article

Toronto Blue Jays
TORONTO -- The Boston Red Sox stumbled into Toronto mired in a four-game losing streak. Thanks to some timely hitting from Mitch Moreland, they left Canada for a showdown in New York against the second-place Yankees riding high after a sweep of the struggling Blue Jays. Moreland had a pinch-hit homer and drove in four runs, Hanley Ramirez added a solo blast and Boston beat Toronto 7-1 on Wednesday night. "It's a testament to the guys in our clubhouse," manager John Farrell said of the turnaround after his team was outscored 38-10 over its skid. "They're driven, they're task-oriented, they don't dwell on what's happened previously. We felt like we needed to do that, coming off a tough series where Continue to Article

Toronto Blue Jays
TORONTO -- Roughed up in Cleveland his last time out, Boston's Chris Sale couldn't wait to get back on the mound. The down time between starts sure seemed to drag, however. "It seemed like a month," Sale joked. Maybe so, but it was definitely worth waiting for. Sale and two relievers combined on a four-hitter, Hanley Ramirez hit a solo home run and the Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Tuesday night. Sale (15-6) fanned 11 in his ML-best 17th double-digit strikeout game, raising his league-leading total to 264. His 15 wins lead the AL. The left-hander, who matched a season-worst by allowing seven runs in his previous outing, gave up just three hits in seven innings. "Anytime you go out Continue to Article
