Saturday night was a classic good news, bad news kind of situation for the St. Louis Cardinals. First, the good news: Tommy Pham's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth capped rallies from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to give them a 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays that they absolutely needed. Jedd Gyorko left the game in the eighth with a right hamstring injury that could require a reinforcement from Triple-A Memphis for Sunday's series finale with Tampa Bay in Busch Stadium. There are bad tweets and then there are tweets that clearly never should have even gotten past the initial stages of tweet-creating. The St. Louis Cardinals’ tweet referencing Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Friday night was definitely the latter. After Cards pitcher Ryan Sheriff put up two consecutive scoreless innings, the team decided to tweet about it. Great! Less great was the Sheriff reference they decided on. Something easy and cliche like there’s a new Sheriff in town? This town isn’t big enough for the two of us? Nope. This week alone the internet was gripped by the totality of the eclipse, the president staring at the eclipse (alright, relatively trivial) and, most recently, the so-called Rally Cat. The St. Louis-based Watkins, whose own law firm biography page describes him as self-centered, egotistical, and a self-proclaimed expert in all matters, most recently showed up on the national scene to defend a kitten that scratched the nation s attention when it meandered onto the field of Busch Stadium in the middle of a tense St. Louis Cardinals game on Aug. 9.
