Contrary to what you may have heard, the Philadelphia Phillies do have players other than Rhys Hoskins. That fact was highlighted on Sunday when Nick Pivetta showed off an impressive pickoff move at an absolutely inopportune time. You have to respect Chicago Continue to Article

Triple plays are rarely straightforward, but the one the Cubs were on the wrong end of on Sunday definitely qualifies as a weird one. Javier Baez was up to bat in the of the fifth against the Phillies with Anthony Rizzo on second base and Tommy La Stella on first with no outs. Baez lined a ball to left field where Rhys Hoskins made a sliding catch to rob Baez of a single and perhaps even an RBI. That's where things got weird. Hoskins just got there in time before the ball hit the ground and dragged his glove behind him as he completed his slide. The Houston Astros are scheduled to open a six-game homestand on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park, but with Hurricane Harvey wreaking havoc through the area games might have to be moved or rescheduled. After beating the Angels on Sunday in Anaheim, the Astros flew to Dallas instead of Houston, with a three-game series against the Texas Rangers set to begin on Tuesday night. “At this point, our focus is on the safety of our fans, players and their families and our front office staff and their families,” said Astros president of baseball operations Reid Ryan. The Milwaukee Brewers are fighting for a playoff berth in the National League, and this weekend, they got a boost by accomplishing something no team has been able to do in nearly three months. Milwaukee won two out of three games at Dodger Stadium, the first team to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in a series since the Washington Nationals from June 5-7. Sunday’s 3-2 win by Milwaukee was fueled by a two-run third inning that featured a home run by Hernan Perez and a double by Travis Shaw. Continue to Article

It might seem like an extended dream sequence to onlookers, and Rhys Hoskins’ initial response as the media mob approached Sunday afternoon might suggest it feels that way to the Phillies’ rookie, too. “Is anybody having déjà vu?” he asked. Understand, however, that Hoskins, in the majors not quite three weeks, has eyes wide open. That he has a workmanlike approach to his craft that figures to serve him well over the long haul — that will carry him through the lulls that are sure to come. He allowed that it has been “not so hard” to keep his wits about him as he has humbled a humbling game, however temporarily — as he has smoked 11 homers in his first 18 major league games, the latest a solo Continue to Article
