LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Roberto Aguayo's kicking problems continue to haunt him in Chicago. Aguayo, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' former 2016 second-round pick, whom the Chicago Bears claimed off waivers on Aug. 13, had issues converting field goals in Friday's practice, coach John Fox volunteered to reporters. "I think our kicker had a little bit of a struggle today in some of his field goals, but it was something we knew about Roberto," Fox said. "He's got a very strong leg; he needs to work on his accuracy. That's why we're out here practicing." Aguayo's problems with accuracy are nothing new. A three-time first-team All-American kicker at Florida State, Aguayo made only 71 percent (22-of-31) of Continue to Article

Akiem Hicks is entering a contract year and has yet to sign an extension, but the Bears’ defensive end reiterated on Thursday that he’d like to remain a part of this organization beyond 2017.  After left tackle Charles Leno signed a four-year extension earlier this week, the natural follow-up question is: Will Hicks be next? “It’s a beautiful thing to be looked at as somebody that you want to be a part of your team for a long time,” Hicks said. “I appreciate the interest in that category and I would love to be a Bear for a long time.” Hicks signed with Drew Rosenhaus in July, and Rosenhaus was seen around Olivet Nazarene University early in training camp, but no extension materialized in Bourbonnais. BEREA, Ohio -- Rookie DeShone Kizer is Cleveland's new starting quarterback. Coach Hue Jackson has elected to go with Kizer, a second-round pick from Notre Dame, over veterans Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler. Kizer has been the most consistent of the three during training camp and led the Browns to three touchdowns during his two exhibition appearances. Jackson said Kizer will start Saturday's exhibition in Tamp Bay and "is certainly positioning himself well to earn the starting job heading into the regular season." The Browns open the season on Sept. 10 against Pittsburgh. Unless he stumbles against the Buccaneers, Kizer will be the 27th different quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999. Kendall Wright saw two years ago what the transition for a quarterback, picked second overall and coming from a college spread offense, can look like. Marcus Mariota made that move smoothly and now looks poised to join the ranks of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this year with the Tennessee Titans.  Can Mitch Trubisky make a similarly successful transition? Wright, so far, has liked what he’s seen. “His overall progression from OTAs to training camp to now, his overall everything he’s done in every area has gotten better,” Wright said. “The work he puts in, it helps him.”  It’s not a perfect comparison, of course, given the offense Mariota so effectively operated at Oregon didn't resemble the Continue to Article

Baseball fans in more than a half-dozen cities from Oregon to South Carolina crowded into minor league ballparks Monday to watch the solar eclipse at game-day viewing parties. The Lincoln Saltdogs wore special black-and-white jerseys and stopped their game just before 1 p.m. to watch the eclipse darken the sky. "It made me all teary-eyed," said Robyn Mason, who watched with her husband, Greg, from a grassy embankment near the third base outfield. Continue to Article
