An unprecedented volume of injuries has opened the door for some lesser known players to crack the Baltimore Ravens final 53-man regular season roster. These five players will have a prime opportunity to prove themselves when the Ravens take on the Buffalo Bills this Saturday: Taquan Mizzell, RB ‘Smoke’ has amassed 116 yards from scrimmage during the first two preseason games; showing off burst, vision and his ability to bring a change of pace to the team’s running back stable. With Kenneth Dixon done for the season and Danny Woodhead nursing a hamstring injury, Mizzell could be a valuable weapon behind Terrance West and Buck Allen. LeSean McCoy of the Buffalo Bills said the reason why Colin Kaepernick hasn’t found an NFL home isn’t just about his protest of the National Anthem. The 29-year-old running back said Kaepernick isn’t that good of a quarterback for an NFL team to willingly take on the “distraction” that comes with his protest. “It’s a lot more than just he’s not on the team because he doesn’t want to stand for the national anthem,” McCoy said Thursday. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a serious pickle this season, as they’ve built a roster that looks ready to contend right now, save for one serious issue. Just the small matter of who will be their starting quarterback, the most important position in all of sports. Blake Bortles, the former third overall pick for the team, entered the offseason as the unquestioned starter. Since the pads have come on and live fire has begun, Bortles has been unquestionably awful, and as a result, the Jags are now in dire straits and must turn to a man they do not fully understand: Chad Henne, who has backed up Bortles for the past three seasons will get the nod to start at quarterback against the Carolina Panthers in preseason game number three. The Ravens were without their top returner, Michael Campanaro, during Thursday’s practice but it was not injury-related, as per Jeff Zrebiec. We can all breathe a sigh of relief. The oft-injured Maryland native has only played in 11 games since being drafted in 2014. This would be a huge blow to the Ravens if Campanaro were to miss any time but it appears, for now, he is healthy and ready to play this season. The kick-returner competition is still one of the more intense roster battles for the Ravens, but as of right now, Campanaro is definitely winning the battle.
